The West London Acadamey built by foster and partners launched a very advanced project. Several London based design studios created – in close collaboration with the students - the interior of the school.
During my internship at el ultimo grito, I worked on the design of the lounge and the recreation room of the youngest pupils. The core of the project is the “theatre table”: a huge round table, on which a whole class can sit. The table is walkable. Small holes in the surface enable the students to put in sticks with a self-made scenery to create a stage for a play or the base for a new game. The library and storage spaces are made out of wooden boxes, which are connected through a simple, flexible system. Therefore the height and shape of the walls can be changed easily and the newly created spaces can be used as small learning studios for small group works.
